Care and Maintenance

The Secure Hood Lock has been designed to provide trouble free service. It’s plated locking pin and plastic encased locking mechanism has been designed to resist the elements.
However, like any other piece of equipment, a little care should be given. Periodically perform the following steps:

1)Periodically, lubricate the locking pin and lock housing with a good quality lubricant (e.g. WD 40, or a silicon based spray) designed for locks. This is insure smooth operation of the key / lock assembly. In addition, this will help displace any moisture that may enter the lock housing

2)From time to time, install and remove the lock cylinder. This is especially true in winter and in areas of the country that have a lot of snow and ice. Additionally, with the lock removed, it would be much easier to lubricate. More importantly, if for some reason you had some mechanical difficulty, the last thing you would want to do is struggle with a frozen or stubborn hood lock.
